The purpose of the Montana Tech Society of Petroleum Engineers is to help educate our members the ways of the petroleum industry.  This mission involves planning events to help younger members network with industry professionals and to aid senior members in attending conferences, presenting technical presentations, and social events.

As one of the most outstanding clubs on Montana Tech's campus, we are deeply involved within the Butte community.   We participate in many different community service projects including a highway cleanup, food drives, blood drives, and various social events.

On campus, we provide numerous opportunities for members to socialize within the Montana Tech network.  Each fall and spring we participate in a campus wide club rush, where each year our member numbers grow.  We have placed in the past two homecoming competitions, where in 2007 we were first overall in all the club competitions.

Every year, we take increasing number of students to the annual SPE conferences. (ATCE)  For the up-coming year, we plan on taking over 80 students to Denver for the convention, a 15 member increase from 2007.  Also planned for the 2008-2009 school year is a trip to the Unconventional Gas Conference in Rapid City, SD in October.  Over five members will compete at the regional paper contest during this conference, with another 15 members also attending.
